There’s been a lot of talk about potential future crossovers for Helldivers 2, and almost every sci-fi IP has been brought up. Aliens, Predator, Terminator; even popular gaming franchises such as Halo and Destiny have been brought up. Thankfully, or unfortunately (depending on who you ask), not all of these IPs are worthy of being a part of future Helldivers 2 crossovers. Specifically, CEO Shams Jorjani says some of these are “a bit too sci-fi” for future crossover events.
Arrowhead CCO Pilestedt drew the line on where Helldivers 2 collabs should end a while back. The line he drew was placed between Warhammer 40k and Halo. Interestingly enough, not all of Warhammer is off the table. This has been reinforced by statements from Jorjani.
Jorjani talks Helldivers 2 crossovers that are “too sci-fi”
Recently, Jorjani was asked about what crossovers he would like to see in Helldivers 2. The answer echoed what Pilestedt had stated in previous months, saying, “The ones everyone else wants, I think? Alien (Colonial Marines), Warhammer 40k (Imperial Guardsmen), ODST? Destiny is a bit too sci-fi, so is Starcraft 2 and Star Wars.”
The Helldivers 2 team has been very adamant in stating that there will never be lightsabers or blaster rifles in Helldivers so we knew Star Wars would forever be off the table. However, parts of Alien, Warhammer 40k, and the Halo IPs could appear in the game as potential collabs. We will never have Master Chief calling in a napalm airstrike but we can still dream.
Helldivers 2 reinforces Warhammer 40k as potential collab
Jorjani doubled down on the potential for a future Helldivers 2 crossover with Warhammer 40k. After being messaged about needing Games Workshop to agree to the collaboration, Jorjani stated, “I can tell you GW (Games Workshop) would love a cross over – and we’re huge 40k fans ourselves – but time and resources are finite and we’ve got our hands busy.”
It is hard to tell if Jorjani is trying to keep a future crossover under wraps to not spoil anything but, for now, there is no crossover with 40k planned. It does seem quite likely that it could happen in the future. If Jorjani is keeping a crossover a secret, it could show itself on the game’s first anniversary happening later this month.
