We are only a couple days past the Doom: The Dark Ages reveal during the Xbox Showcase, and someone has already modded the Shieldsaw seen in that trailer into the original Doom game. X user CreeperofSteam tweeted the below video of his work replacing the game’s chainsaw with Doomguy’s newest badass item.
From what we can see, the Shieldsaw seems to be fully operational in this classic game. Not only does it rev it up to slice through demons, but it blocks damage and can be thrown for a ranged attack. You then need to go pick it up to keep using it. If you want to try it yourself, you can download it here.
The Doom: The Dark Ages shieldsaw was definitely one of the coolest things shown in a trailer filled with interesting tidbits. We saw it magnetically connect to Doomguy’s gauntlet, and, like in the mod, he can throw it at enemies or slice through close foes. It does appear that there is likely an upgrade for the item that will have it returned to you after you throw it in the new game, though.
The Shieldsaw isn’t the only thing CreeperofSteam has been working on. They also posted video of the new Skullcrusher gun in action, although we know less about the other uses of this weapon other than it sprays skull fragments at enemies. Here’s the link to download that.
Doom: The Dark Ages is definitely one of our most anticipated games of 2025, and it’s obvious we are not alone. Seeing fans mod in the new tools for ripping and tearing is so great to see. Until we get another look at the game, we will happily use the Shieldsaw in the original game.
