Xbox’s multi-platform plans have been at the center of most news headlines as of late, and it looks like those plans are rapidly expanding as it was revealed by Xbox and Playground Games that Forza Horizon 5 is coming to PS5 this spring, though a hard release date not yet been set. Crossplay between PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC will be available right away.
Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 this spring
Via a blog post on Forza.net, Playground Games posted a statement that read, “With nearly 900 cars available in the game, over 40 thematic game updates, two expansions, and so much more content, our team is excited to announce that this spring, PlayStation 5 players will be able to explore Mexico’s beautiful roads and experience the Horizon Festival for the first time as we are officially launching Forza Horizon 5 on PS5.”
The PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5 is being developed by Panic Button Games, who have a long history of porting over games to various consoles.
In addition to this announcement it was also revealed that Playground Games are working on a, “special new free content update for all platforms,” which happens to go by the name of Horizon Realms. According to Playground games, “Realms will give players the chance to explore a curated collection of some of the community’s favorite previously released Evolving Worlds, alongside some other surprises. Stay tuned to our channels for more details soon.” As for previously released car packs along with the Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure expansions, those will also still be available for purchase.
Forza Horizon 5 is available to wishlist on the PlayStation Store today and specific release details will be revealed soon enough. If you have had the chance to play this or any of the past Horizon games, you will know that this instantly becomes one of the best racing games available on the PlayStation. With this Xbox pillar now down, it seems only a matter of time until we get a Halo and Gears of War announcement.
