Let us harken back to the first half of 2024. Helldivers 2 was released in February to an eager fanbase that exploded the game’s popularity. Unfortunately, this popularity would come crashing down after Sony pulled the rug out from under the players, resulting in the game being delisted in many countries – over 170. This devastated Helldivers 2 fans and created a rift between the development company Arrowhead and the community. While this has been mended in some ways, the delisted countries have still been unable to purchase Helldivers 2. Well, it seems the situation is finally being corrected, as Sony and Steam have restored access to Helldivers 2 to over 30 countries on the list.
More Helldivers 2 reinforcements are inbound
For those who don’t remember the Sony debacle, it all started when the company moved forward on requiring a PSN account to be linked to Helldivers 2. Since many countries don’t have access to PSN, this led to many individuals around the world being unable to play the game. After a real-life MO against Sony where players bombarded the game with bad reviews, the company released its iron grip, disabling the requirement to have a PSN account linked to the play the game on Steam. However, many countries were also delisted, preventing players from those areas from being able to purchase Helldivers 2.
Fast forward to today, Helldivers 2 Steam store access has been restored to many of the countries previously on the banned list. Multiple users such as DarthSet have been announcing the game’s return across Reddit and X. The ban list was once filled with over 170 countries. The current list, however, is now at 133.
Some of the countries removed from the ban list according to SteamDB are:
- Anguilla
- Aruba
- Aland Islands
- Saint Barthelemy
- Bermuda
- Bouvet Island
- Cook Islands
- Greenland
- Gibraltar
- British Virgin Islands
Over 30 more countries now have access to Helldivers 2, and many are excited for new players to join the fight for democracy. There is still no word as to when the rest of the countries will be granted access to purchase Helldivers 2. For now, over 130 countries remain on the ban list.
