Where do you draw the line when it comes to collabs in Helldivers 2? After all, you don’t want the game to end up like Fortnite or Black Ops where just about anything is allowed. Helldivers 2 already collaborated with Killzone, which was accepted with mixed results. Now, Helldivers 2 CCO Pilestedt has drawn the line for future collabs and it lies somewhere between Warhammer 40k and Halo. He has also laid out the core tenets for everyone to show why the line is drawn here.
When asked about the Killzone collaboration, Helldivers 2 CEO Jorjani let everyone know they “missed the mark.” To make it up to everyone, the team handed out the second half of the Killzone collab “free of charge.”
Helldivers 2 CCO draws a literal line on future collabs
Recently, an image has been going around the Helldivers 2 community which asks where they draw the line regarding collaborations. After all, nobody wants Helldivers 2 to turn into the next Fortnite or Call of Duty. The collaboration chart starts with Killzone on the far left and ends with Snoop Dogg joining the party. Helldivers 2 CCO Pilestedt responded to this image and drew the line between Warhammer 40k and Halo, saying, “Here’s the line.”
Along with this, Pilestedt laid out the core tenets that Arrowhead follows to make sure collaborations stay grounded in the reality of Helldivers 2. These core tenets include points such as only choosing “IPs that are appropriate for the Helldivers IP – close to 1:1 match.” Another tenet is that “crossover lore would become canon of Helldivers 2.”
Along with this, some of the tenets specifically mention keeping the rate of Helldivers 2 collabs down to “avoid IP dilution.” Many responded to Pilestedt on Reddit. After many replies, he made a statement about future collabs saying, “Everyone has their own tolerance of how far anything can be taken. I, for instance, have an extreme sensitivity to bullet sponge enemies, UI, unrealistic movement speeds, weapon inaccuracies, etc. As soon as you push over the line for an individual we start losing them. We are very conscious of this. Helldivers, and the Helldivers community, is what it is, because of what the game is. This could be true in the future as well in case of collabs, and something we have to navigate very carefully.”
It doesn’t seem as though we will be getting any future collaborations involving IPs such as Halo or Star Wars, but we all know where the line is drawn for the Helldivers 2 team. Now we just need to wait for the Warhammer 40k collab to come out.
