The Spear in Helldivers 2 just can’t seem to catch a break. It seems that every time there is an update, this beloved weapon breaks in some way or another. At first, it had issues locking into enemies. While it could be done, the weapon was very unreliable. After the massive patch that offered over 100 changes and fixes, the Spear lost the ability to lock into Automaton spawns – a key feature that many used to clear out spawns quickly and from far away. With the latest patch, the lock-on issue was fixed but now there is a new Spear bug in Helldivers 2.
The latest bug, as experienced by many, causes the game to crash if you aim the Spear at certain targets. The biggest culprit is the side of a Charger. Players have said that it is okay to aim at the front and back of a Charger but the game will crash if you attempt to target the creature’s side. This is obviously not intended to happen but luckily, the crash is being looked into by the developers.
Earlier today, Helldivers 2 community manager Twinbeard confirmed that a few crashes and bugs are being looked into. When asked about the Spear crash, Twinbeard stated, “Yeah, there are crashes affiliated with the Spear ATM. We’re looking into it!” He stated the same thing again when asked to make an announcement about it. Twinbeard even confirmed that it seems like the Spear is just cursed to always have some type of issue affecting it. Perhaps one day it will work as intended.
Even earlier, Twinbeard confirmed that another crash is being looked into. In another comment, he stated, “Yup, we’re working in the Esc. and opening the Social menu crash!” There are plenty of issues that are still affecting the game but it is nice to know that things are being worked on and the Spear bug should be fixed soon. If not, we may see a fix in the next patch. Until then, there are a lot of other suggestions players have had. One fan even made a comprehensive report of feedback for the latest patch.
