The collaboration between Helldivers 2 and Killzone has finally landed (at least part one has) and fans are not too happy with the price point. While many are happy about the way the collab armor looks and want to get their hands on it, they are not too happy about paying more than the price of a Warbond to get about a third of the items. In response to the backlash over the Helldivers 2 collab pricing, Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani has admitted they “missed the mark for the first part of this one.”
Recently, a member of the Helldivers 2 team confirmed that there will be an “upcoming MO” that will allow you to unlock the FRV. Before the full backlash of the team’s first collaboration, the team stated they are “Committed to Making Sure Collabs Stay in Tune With Helldivers.”
CEO Shams Jorjani and COO Pilestedt respond to Helldivers 2 collab pricing backlash
The backlash over the first pricing of the first part of the Killzone collab with Helldivers 2 spread to Discord where CEO Shams Jorjani was quick to respond. In a post on the Helldivers 2 Discord server, Jorjani stated, “I’ve mentioned elsewhere but our aim is to make stuff that leaves players satisfied (value/money) and it sells well. We missed the mark on the first part for this one.” If you want to purchase the entire first part of the collab, you will need to spend 1,975 Super Credits. If you are purchasing them from the in-game store, that is a total of around $20 for six items.
In another response, Jorjani stated, “Turns out the people who have experience with live service don’t always agree with one another either – what works for one game doesn’t for another. We have to find our own Democratic way. We do that by trying different things. and this has been a good learning opportunity.” He also admitted that “running a game like this is hard” and that the team has “never managed or run a big live service game before.”
Arrowhead CEO Pilestedt has also been fielding the backlash over the first Helldivers 2 collab on X. In response to fans complaining about the price, Pilestedt said, “Sorry you felt the price was steep, we are looking at all feedback. The reason we changed it from a warbond was actually because there were concerns that having a higher priced warbond would carry negative sentiment.”
While the change is understandable, many are still upset over the price increase. Another major complaint is that the armor has too good of a passive ability, essentially making it the new meta. As one fan pointed out, “What I think most people are mad about is that the Killzone’s armor passives are a little too good and priced a little too high for most people’s liking. I think that if the cross-over armors were a little less “meta-friendly” people would be a little more open to paying slightly more.” This backlash could lead to a change in the price of the second part but we will need to wait for the release to see what happens.
