Marvel Rivals fans are hoping for better map variety in the coming months for the popular hero shooter. With the game approaching two months since its release in December, the following thread was posted on the r/marvelrivals subreddit, and while there was plenty of praise and other suggestions to make it better, the number of playable maps seemed to be the biggest talking point.
Currently, there are 9 total maps in Marvel Rivals’ main modes, with Midtown being the first post-launch addition. If you are a player that spends multiple hours every day playing the game, you are likely to get the same map multiple times in your session, and can often get the same location in back-to-back matches. Of course, that’s not likely an issue for casual players, but plenty have aired grievances about playing Spider-Islands, Birnin T’Challa, and Yggdrasill Path too many times in their games. Personally, we feel like we get Symbiotic Surface way too often for our own good.
The hero selection in Marvel Rivals is looking to continually expand after the additions of the Fantastic 4 in season 1, but the map variety issue looks to be started to be amended soon. The Sanctum Sanctorum, Central Park will be added to the game in the coming months, though Doctor Strange’s home is just an arcade match addition. It is unknown what, if any, map additions are in the works for season 2.
With time, Marvel Rivals is likely to address the map variety issue. Hopefully, some of that is handled with changing matchmaking to allow for more variance. The game has been very popular and we imagine NetEase has plenty of plans to keep adding to the game outside of the consistent new playable heroes.
