The Fantastic Four have finally been announced as the next heroes to join Marvel Rivals. All four of them will be added during season one but the first two to be added to the game will be the Invisible Woman and Luffy… we mean Mister Fantastic. However, we should be saying the former since many fans of the game have been pointing out the similarity between Mister Fantastic’s movies in Marvel Rivals and Luffy’s from One Piece.
Outside of the recent leaks and announcements for Marvel Rivals, a fan recently broke down everything you need to know about bot lobbies and how to get them removed. On top of that, many players have been calling Marvel Rivals pay-to-win thanks to some characters getting affected by your FPS.
Marvel Rivals players compare Mister Fantastic to Luffy
NetEase revealed the trailer for Mister Fantastic and it shows off all of his stretchy abilities. While Mister Fantastic has been around since 1961, it is uncanny how his in-game abilities mimic the moves and poses that Luffy performs in the popular anime. Posts of the similarities have been popping up all over the MarvelRivals SubReddit and X. For instance, a post from Select_Razzmatazz987 shows a drawing of Mister Fantastic posing as Gear Four Luffy.
Players have pointed out that Mister Fantastic’s base attack looks shockingly similar to Luffy’s Gum-Gum Pistol combined with the Gum-Gum Bazooka. Along with this, Mister Fanastic’s ability to capture projectiles and shoot them back at enemies is similar to Luffy’s Gum-Gum Balloon. Finally, the way Mister Fantastic increases the size of his chest and fists is reminiscent of the aforementioned Gear Four Luffy. Don’t believe us? Here’s a similarity.
This isn’t the first One Piece reference in Marvel Rivals
Many pointed out another One Piece reference that appeared earlier in Marvel Rivals which is the snowman in the winter seasonal event. The snowman in said image can be seen wearing a pink top hat with reindeer antlers made of sticks. This is extremely similar to the hat that Tony Tony Chopper wears in the anime.
It is not clear if the Marvel Rivals team intended to make Mister Fantastic similar in style to Luffy from One Piece but it is a fun reference for fans whether it was intended or not. Keep an eye out for more One Piece references in Marvel Rivals as more characters are released.
