Nintendo has officially revealed its new console but while all eyes are on the system in the front of the trailer, a new Mario Kart game was teased on the screen. A few brief moments appear on the system’s screen as well as the television featured in the trailer but that is enough to get fans excited for the future of the Mario Kart franchise.
Many games have been rumored for the Nintendo Switch 2 prior to the system’s official announcement. Some of these include a new 3D Mario game, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, and yes, a new Mario Kart title rumored to be titled Mario Kart 9.
New Mario Kart title teased
The Mario Kart title teased in the trailer had some familiar sights and a few unfamiliar ones. For starters, we saw many of the standard characters you’d expect to see such as Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Bowser, Toadette, Toad, Yoshi, Peach, and Daisy. Baby Mario and Luigi could possibly have been seen as well if you look hard enough. That is where the familiar sights end and we start treading into unfamiliar territory.
Snippets of the new game showed off a desert highway track seemingly called Mario Bros. Circuit complete with a diner or burger joint themed after Yoshi, a fire flower gas station, and an ad for Luigi Tires. Speaking of the Yoshi diner, there is a strange shining item under the awning that could be the new item boxes or something entirely different. Along with this, we got a look at some new karts that definitely stand out more than the ones in Mario Kart 8.
A brief glimpse at the start of the course also reveals that there are now 24 spaces instead of the standard 12. This could elude to the new game supporting up to 24 players in a single race which would bring the craziness up a notch for sure. There is no official word as to what Mario Kart title this is. It could be Mario Kart 9 or titled something different such as Mario Kart Wonder. We will need to wait and see what else is revealed during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on April 2, 2025.
