Nobody would blame you if you gave up on XDefiant after Mark Rubin and Ubisoft announced its cancellation. Many fans uninstalled the game after hearing that it will be taken offline in June 2025. Instead of releasing the new season content, the team unleashed a massive update on the remaining players which includes multiple new maps, factions, and weapons from all over Ubisoft’s franchises, including Rayman. The update included content that was meant to come out in seasons three through eight. Now that fans have all of this upcoming content for XDefiant, they find the experience bittersweet and wish it wasn’t going to go away.
Mark Rubin and Ubisoft announced XDefiant would be shutting down back in the early days of December. This shutdown will come in June 2025, giving players only six more months to enjoy the arcade shooter that was originally marketed as a “Call of Duty killer.” Since then, fans have created a petition to help save XDefiant which is currently sitting around 5,000 signatures.
Fans find the upcoming content released for XDefiant bittersweet
All across the XDefiant SubReddit, players have been posting their reactions to the update for XDefiant. What they thought would only be the season three content turned into a massive drop that included content from seasons three through eight. This includes 13 new maps with a Rayman map included, multiple new game modes with one being called Lum Hunt, new weapons, and even more factions including the Assassins.
One XDefiant fan named Puzzleheaded_Bus_852 posted their reaction to the update saying, “From the maps to the new factions, the weapons, prestige and account lvl being separate, badges, the cosmetics in the store, the new modes, faction mastery… sad to think what this game could have been 2-3 years from now…”
Another fan by the name of Wise-Juice3373 created a post saying, “To whoever worked on Enchanted Forest… You’re actually a legend bro. All of you, this is genuinely one of my favorite maps of all time in any shooter.” They went on to say “I don’t know if any devs are gonna see this but I really just wanna thank y’all, man. I love this game and I’m so happy I got the chance to experience it.”
Among the posts, fans have been sharing their distaste for Ubisoft and grieving over what the game could have been if it had been given a bit more time to flourish. Many have even said that they will be downloading the game again thanks to this new update. One of the devs who worked on the game shared their thoughts saying, “As one of those Devs who was laid off, this is so much better of a situation than having the update never release and thus all stay under NDA. Makes it much easier for me to find new work too. Having six months for players to enjoy things I worked on like Wolves, and Defuse is enough.”
If you are one of the many who deleted the game after hearing the news of its shutdown, you still have around five months to enjoy the new update. Make the most of this time if you have not played XDefiant in a while.
