Unless you are a serious Xbox gamer or haven’t looked at social media in the last hour, you are aware that the PlayStation Network has been down for over 14 hours at this point. Much to many players’ surprise, yesterday at approximately 5pm to 6pm EST, PSN went down worldwide. No official statement has been made from Sony except, “We are aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN.” That is a serious understatement. With that being said, many PlayStation Network users are now fearing that another major data breach has occurred.
PlayStation Network was hacked back in 2011, leading to many users’ data being compromised. It is estimated that approximately 77 million accounts had information leaked during the 24-day outage.
PlayStation Network data breach concerns rise
After a long day’s work on February 7, 2025, many PlayStation Network users came home to discover that the network was down. They quickly jumped onto social media to discover that this was no isolated event. Instead of being confined to a single area like most outages, the entirety of the PlayStation Network appeared to be down. Over 14 hours later, the network is still down for users worldwide.

“As predicted it is hacked. Servers would have been up by now expect it to go into next day,” one user said about the outage on X. “Is that a PlayStation hack? I have my credit card info on my PlayStation… I can’t even access the app and delete my card info…” another user stated. Others have been warning users to delete their information or change their passwords in the event that this is another hack similar to the event from 2011 that lasted 24 days.
It is important to note that Sony has not made a statement outside of acknowledging the incident. Of course, this happened back in the day as well when the PlayStation Network went down so it is understandable that many are skeptical. If you are still experiencing issues, be sure to check Sony’s official website to see when the servers come back online. You can also check the official PlayStation X account.
