Overwatch 2 Season 17 is set to launch on June 24 but Blizzard has revealed what you can expect from the upcoming season of content. Definitely the biggest new feature coming is the addition of map voting to Quick and Competitive modes. Additionally, a new map for the standard game modes will be added, Stadium is getting new heroes and maps, and D.Va and Reaper mythics will both be available at the start of the season.

What is Coming in Overwatch 2 Season 17?

Here’s a breakdown for what to expect from Overwatch 2 Season 17.

Map Voting

After hero bans made their debut in Season 16, we were very ready for map voting to be added as well. When you start up a Quick or Competitive game, you will see a selection of three maps that you can vote for that you want to play on. To prevent people being jerks about the map choice, communications will not be activated yet and no one will know what choice each person makes. Leaver penalties are active when voting starts, so don’t abandon the match because you don’t like the results.

Stadium Updates

After Freja took over Stadium, people are ready for a bit more of a mix-up. That may be in the cards with Sigma, Zenyatta, and Junkrat being playable. Esperanca and Samoa are also being added to the map pools. Stadium is also getting a custom mode to play with friends, a sharing system for builds in Forge, and the usual rank reset and refresh for your Stadium rank.

Core is the new base mode map being added in Season 17. This Flashpoint map takes place in Morocco and is built to be tightly packed and filled with action. With how often it can feel to get Junker City, it’s nice to potentially have a little more variety with a new Flashpoint map.

Mythics

D.Va is the start of Overwatch 2 Season 17 with her new mythic skin called Horang. For the first time, the mythic weapon skin will also be available at season launch, this one belonging to Reaper. Given his name, he finally has been given scythe-styled shotguns.

Overwatch 2 Season 17 Events

When Season 17 kicks off, you will be given four epic loot boxes and one legendary loot box if you complete 17 matches across Quick, Competitive, and Stadium play.

On July 15, a new event mode called Hacks & Hijinx will begin for two weeks. This mode is played on Control maps and will have various modifiers are active each round. The blog post mentions low gravity in one round, with health packs charging ultimates in another. Hopefully, there’s a good number of modifiers to keep this mode fun and chaotic.
