Original story below
The beloved Pink Mercy skin in Overwatch 2 seems to finally be making its return to the in-game shop after a six-year absence. The game’s official X account has been replying to various tweets made years ago with short messages that easily imply the skin will be made available again soon. With Season 11 just around the corner, we expect an official announcement alongside the full season trailer.
Pink Mercy skin origins
The Pink Mercy skin was originally released in May 2018 and was, at the time, the most expensive Overwatch skin at $15. All purchases for the skin and additional apparel made in the Blizzard Gear Store benefitted the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. During the two-week stretch of availability, the sales were seen as a massive success, raising $12.7 million for breast cancer research and many assumed that more charity events like this would happen, say for Colon Cancer. Unfortunately, we never saw another event like this.
In recent weeks, there have been rumors swirling of a kind of return for Pink Mercy. Instead of the original skin, it may end up being a new variant called Rose Gold Mercy. If this is the case, the skin itself will be the same, but the color shading will be different. Overwatch 2 has released quite a few recolored skins, so this wouldn’t be out of the question. It also lets them technically release a “brand new” skin with minimal effort.
Regardless if Pink Mercy returns or its a recolored Rose Gold variant, we expect fans are going to buy the skin when it is available. The community has been asking for a return for years, so it’s great to see it finally happen. We just hope that Activision Blizzard will be donating the proceeds to charity once again and show how they can be a force for good when they want to.
