The Nintendo Switch 2 has sold over 3.5 million units in its first four days to become the fastest selling console from the company and it’s not even close. While some were questioning how popular the newest hybrid console would be because of its launch lineup and higher price, the hype around the company seems to be just as high as ever.

Comparing the Switch 2 Fastest Selling Number to Other Devices

The number comes from Nintendo’s internal data, so this is confirmed. When comparing this launch to other consoles, the numbers show how successful the Switch 2 is in the early days. The first Switch sold 1.4 million units in its first week, and 2.7 million in its first month. However, to add a little context, the Switch 1 was not as readily available as the Switch 2.

Because Nintendo took such a direct effort to make sure they had enough stock this time around, it was going to be surprising if it didn’t beat the Switch 1 in early sales. The more interesting sales numbers to us will come down the line to see how close the Switch 2 can get to its predecessor’s current sales number of over 152 million.

If you want to add a little more salt to the grave of the Wii U, the Switch 2 now has over 38% of that console’s lifetime sales.

Unfortunately, we only have estimated numbers to compare the Switch 2 with other fastest selling consoles. We’ve seen some say the PlayStation 4 and 5 took about 5-6 weeks to reach 3.5 million, but the latter console also dealt with shortages at launch. The lifetime sales on the Steam Deck are estimated to be about 4 million, but that device isn’t available in retail stores, so it’s bad practice to compare that to anything from the big three console platforms.

Overall, the Switch 2 being Nintendo’s fastest selling console is not nearly surprising given how much the company focused on making sure there were enough units available for a lot of people. That’s a practice we hope both they and other console makers can stick to in the future. The early returns are great for Nintendo. Now we all just get to sit back and wait for more great games to come to the console.
