Treyarch have officially announced and teased the next Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies map. The Tomb, a new round-based map, will be released alongside the start of Season 2 on January 28. The announcement comes on 115 Day (January 15), the Call of Duty Zombies community day to celebrate the mode’s Element 115, which has played such a pivotal role in Zombies history.
What is The Tomb in Black Ops 6 Zombies?
Not much was given for what to expect from The Tomb besides some sepia-toned screenshots and a few quick sentences. The pictures below were taken by a British archeologist named Sir Archibald Fotherington-Smythe, who disappeared when excavating the site. It’s likely, we will learn his fate, and maybe even interact with him in other ways during the main quest Easter egg.
This time around, our Zombies crew is looking to find the Sentinel Artifact. This ancient object has been hinted at quite a bit in Black Ops 6 Zombies, but is best known for its role in Black Ops 4 Zombies, where it was heavily used in the Chaos story. More elements of that story are beginning to meld their way into the main Dark Aether story we are in now.
When making The Tomb, Treyarch have gone in to replicate the success that Liberty Falls has seen, which has been the most played Zombies map in Black Ops 6. Replayability and tight spaces are at the front of the conversation, with a reimagined wonder weapon from a past Zombies map and an iconic SMG making its return. Those could be the Ray Gun Mk.2 and MP40.
Other notes
That’s all we know about The Tomb until it gets fully revealed next week. However, Treyarch did say that there are some nice quality of life improvements coming to the game. If a match is filled with everyone playing in the same party, the host will now be able to pause the game and give everyone a break. Additionally, any one who is kicked for being AFK will now keep all of their equipment as well. HUD presets and challenge trackers are also being added.
Last bit of news from the blog post is that Directed Mode is helping a big group of players complete main Easter egg quests. On November 14, only 3.38% of players were doing these quests, but now 8.23% have. That will feel like a very small number, but for as niche of an event as the main story is in Zombies, that’s a massive leap.
