Arrowhead has had a mixed year since the release of Helldivers 2. The game started off strong before taking multiple hits thanks to poorly executed updates with massive nerfs. This was all turned around near the end of the summer thanks to massive updates that set the game right. Now, Arrowhead is ending 2024 on a strong note with the first-ever Helldivers 2 collaboration and it is with none other than Killzone. Don’t worry, this doesn’t seem to be Arrowhead’s only collaboration, and one of the Helldivers 2 CMs confirmed that the team is “committed” to its collabs and “won’t be doing just any.”
The team behind Helldivers 2 is ending the year on a strong note. At The Game Awards, the team revealed the Illuminate before releasing an update adding the enemy faction to the game. This update, enjoyed by many, also added vehicles to the game. Shortly after that, the team added a Warbond which introduced the game’s first melee weapon.
Helldivers 2 devs show their commitment to collabs
After the first-ever Helldivers 2 collaboration went live, community manager Miitchimus took to the Helldivers 2 Discord server to address a comment about future collaborations. One user asked, “Hi, I wanted to know if the devs at Arrowhead were making sure that the collabs are not going to interfere with the aesthetic and world-building of the game. I would hate seeing Helldivers become another Fortnite.”
To this comment, Miitchimus replied, “We are still very committed to making sure collabs stay in tune with Helldivers. We won’t be doing just any.”
This is great news for those who want to make sure that Helldivers 2 doesn’t go the route of other popular shooters such as Fortnite and Call of Duty. Both games are known for their crossovers with Call of Duty being criticized previously about the wild collaborations. There are other collaborations that Arrowhead is considering. In a past interview with Inven, Jorjani mentioned that “Alien seems like a pretty good theme.” Pilestedt mentioned that they are also “considering IPs like Warhammer.”
There are a lot of sci-fi projects that the team could consider for future collabs with Heldlivers 2. Another that Jorjani mentioned is the Zerg from Starcraft. He also mentioned the possibility of adding “something like a Gauss rifle.” We will need to see where future collaborations go but for now, you can see the first part of the Killzone 2 collaboration in the Superstore with the second part coming in a few days.
